170 seafarers “stuck” in German port due to quarantine returned to Ukraine
Ukrainian sailors, who were stranded due to quarantine on board the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 in the German port of Cuxhaven, have returned today to their country of origin.
This was reported to Ukrinform in the Union of Shipping Workers of Ukraine.
“170 Ukrainian sailors have just returned from Germany to Ukraine from the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3, who were stranded aboard a ship in the German port of Cuxhaven due to quarantine,” said union representative Natalya Izhitsa.
An industry union said it had been approached by Hamani Amadu, an inspector from the International Transport Federation (ITF) in Germany. He said that on board the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 (OMI: 964173, Maltese flag), TUI Cruises has 170 Ukrainian sailors who need help to get home.
The Ukrainian Maritime Transport Union contacted the German union and representatives of TUI Cruises.

“The company has arranged a charter flight for the sailors to Kiev, and as 167 sailors are from Odessa, they will return home by bus,” said Izhitsa.
She also said that union management had contacted a truck driver to check on the organization of transportation for Ukrainians to Odessa. In addition, the seafarers were informed that they could spend the necessary period of isolation at home, using the “House of Dooms” application.
The Union of Maritime Transport Workers of Ukraine (PRMTU) is the largest national trade union in the industry, the only maritime affiliate of the International and European Transport Federation (ITF and ETF) in our country. PRMTU currently has more than 80,000 members, more than 50,000 of whom are Ukrainian seafarers working for international maritime employers.
As Ukrinform previously reported, this afternoon, 159 Ukrainian sailors who were on cruise ships flew from the Netherlands to Ukraine on a special flight from Ukraine International Airlines. In general, we are talking about ten of these airliners: Regal Princess, Emerald Princess, Caribbean Princess, Island Princess, Crown Princess, Sky Princess, Volendam, Veendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam.
