In a letter to his wife, the Ukrainian political prisoner in Russia, Alexander Marchenko, announced his state of health and said that “the hearings are like a circus”.

The Ukrinform correspondent was informed by the wife of a political prisoner, Yekaterina Marchenko.

“I received a letter from my spouse. He writes that the hearings are like a circus and that the system “works”. He wants to be sentenced as soon as possible so that there is a possibility of communication, ”says Yekaterina Marchenko.

According to her, Alexander reports that his eyesight has deteriorated, Marchenko is currently without pills, wakes up in the middle of the night due to panic attacks and a rapid heartbeat. “But although he doesn’t feel very well, he does sports every day, does stretching,” said Yekaterina Marchenko.

As indicated, on December 17, 2018, the Ukrainian Alexander Marchenko was arrested by the “MGB DPR”. After a two-month stay in the “MGB DPR” detention center, Marchenko was taken to the border of Ukraine and the Russian Federation and handed over to representatives of the Russian FSB. For almost two and a half months, he was detained through administrative arrests in the deportation center in Krasnodar territory.

A criminal case against Marchenko was not opened until April 30, 2019. After that, he was placed in a pre-trial detention center, accusing him of preparing for the illegal acquisition and transfer of military products from the territory of Russia (part 1 of article 30 of the Criminal Code, part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code) and espionage (article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

As Marchenko’s relatives explain, in 2014 he drove his car to a petrol station in Donetsk. Due to the onset of the Russian aggression and the war, he was unable to recover the repair transport. In December 2018, an acquaintance by the name of Marchenko said it seemed that the man who had illegally driven his car had fled Donetsk, so there is the possibility of coming to town and returning the car. Relatives of the Ukrainian citizen claim that his testimony was beaten by torture.

In December 2019, the Memorial Human Rights Center recognized the Ukrainian Marchenko as a political prisoner.

Currently, Marchenko is awaiting his conviction in the Krasnodar pre-trial detention center-5. The court is closed.

In June a Russian court, for far-fetched reasons, denied the Ukrainian consul access to a political prisoner from the Russian Federation, Marchenko.
