The Ministry of Health is developing measures and recommendations concerning the mechanism for introducing adaptive quarantine in the regions.

This was announced by Health Minister Maxim Stepanov during a briefing on May 8, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.

“According to our legislation, local governments have the right, including their duty, to strengthen certain quarantine measures. It is precisely this type of adaptive quarantine – this is when the state establishes certain rules at the state level as a whole, and if the situation worsens, then local governments, local authorities increase the quarantine depending on the situation. We are currently developing the appropriate algorithm, criteria and measures relevant to the recommendations for strengthening quarantine, I think the other day we will be able to provide them to our regions, “said Stepanov.

He recalled that since May 11, “the government has carried out the first serious relaxation of the quarantine, which applies to almost all these areas of our life”.

“Secondly, we have already introduced elements of this adaptive quarantine, for example, scheduled operations are authorized in regions where the load on the medical system in connection with COVID-19, that is to say in hospitals, does not exceed 50%, “said the Minister.

As reported, since March 12, the government has introduced quarantine in Ukraine to combat the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. In particular, educational establishments were closed, commerce, with the exception of grocery stores, pharmacies, service stations and banks. Subway work in Kiev, Kharkov and Dnipro has been stopped, land transport in cities has been stopped, interurban and interregional automobile, rail and air communications have been stopped.

On April 24, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal unveiled a five-step plan to get Ukraine out of quarantine. According to him, the implementation of this plan could start on May 11, subject to a favorable epidemic situation.

Now the government has extended quarantine until May 22.

At a government meeting on May 4, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov proposed the introduction of an adaptive quarantine mechanism. This means that in the event of outbreaks of infection in certain regions, quarantine will be reinforced there, and not throughout the country.
