A century ago, a diplomat and public figure Vladimir Mursky, working in Istanbul, actively communicated with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, ensuring that Ukraine received its local Church.
The Ukrainian state at the time faced challenges similar to those of today, said Alexander Gaman, Ukrainian consul general in Istanbul in an interview with Ukrinform.
“History repeats itself … Exactly a hundred years ago, the diplomat and public figure Vladimir Mursky, working in Istanbul, did practically the same thing that we did and do. He actively communicated with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, worked to ensure that Ukraine had its own local church, “said Gaman.
The Ukrainian Consul General in Istanbul at one point took an active part in the process of obtaining Tomos PCU.
“Personally, I was very happy to become a witness and a participant in the completion of the work that our predecessors started a century ago. We are grateful to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and personally to Patriarch Bartholomew for supporting and implementing this idea, ”added the diplomat.
From the work of Mursky, it is known that 100 years ago, Ukraine faced similar challenges today.
