BP ratifies two treaties with Argentina: extradition of offenders and legal assistance
The Verkhovna Rada, at an extraordinary meeting on April 30, ratified the Treaty between Ukraine and the Argentine Republic on the transfer of sentenced persons (Bill No. 0023).
The law was supported by 300 deputies, reports the correspondent of Ukrinform.
The explanatory note notes that the entry into force of the treaty will make it possible to regulate the procedure for the transfer of citizens so that they serve their sentence in the state of their nationality in relations between Ukraine and the Argentine Republic, which will contribute the correction and social adjustment of convicts.
The entry into force of the Treaty is necessary to resolve the mechanism of interaction between the State organs of the parties when they decide to transfer persons sentenced to prison terms who are ready to serve their sentence on the territory of their State of citizenship.
On August 6, 2018, in Buenos Aires, an agreement was concluded between Ukraine and the Argentine Republic on the transfer of sentenced persons.

In accordance with paragraphs “b” and “є” of the second part of article 9 of the Ukrainian law on international treaties of Ukraine, this Treaty is subject to ratification with regard to the rights, freedoms and duties of ‘a person and a citizen, and since its ratification is provided for in Article 24 of this Treaty.
Parliament also adopted the law “on the ratification of the treaty between Ukraine and the Argentine Republic on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters” (No. 0024).
The corresponding decision during an extraordinary meeting on April 30 was supported by 307 deputies, reports the correspondent of Ukrinform.
The treaty between Ukraine and the Argentine Republic on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters is expected to enter into force on the thirtieth day after the date of the exchange of the instruments of ratification.
As indicated in the explanatory note, the agreement between the countries will create legal bases for cooperation between the competent authorities of the two States in criminal matters, which will consist of the execution of requests for mutual legal assistance.
The implementation of the provisions of the agreement will be ensured within the framework of the funds allocated in the Ukrainian state budget for the maintenance of the state bodies which will participate directly in its implementation, and will not require costs. additional from the state budget of Ukraine.
As noted, Ukraine and Argentina signed a mutual legal assistance agreement in criminal matters in August 2018.
