Earlier, US officials imposed sanctions against a Chinese company
The UK government intends to leave the devices of Chinese company Huawei to the national communications infrastructure by 2027.
British mobile operators will be banned from December 31, 2020 on purchasing new devices from Huawei 5G. It was said by the Minister of Digital Technology, Culture, Media and Sports of the country in the House of Commons of the British Parliament, the report BBC.
The decision was made following US sanctions against Huawei. The US government claims the company is a threat to national security, but Huawei has denied the allegations.
Dowden said the move would delay the deployment of 5G in the country by a year. He said the cost of the project and the restrictions imposed on Huawei could cost the UK up to £ 2 billion ($ 2.5 billion).
“It was a difficult decision, but it is true for the UK telecommunications network, for our national security and our economy, now and in the long term,” the minister emphasized.
At the same time, the BBC clarifies that since US restrictions only apply to new devices, there is no reason to remove Huawei 2G, 3G and 4G devices.
Huawei said the British government’s decision was “bad news for all UK mobile phone owners”. The company threatened to increase accounts in the country and the digital divide, the newspaper reports.
