Canadian military started quarantine two weeks before business trip to Ukraine
Canadian troops, who will soon come to Ukraine to participate in the UNIFIER training mission, have entered a two-week mandatory quarantine.
This was announced to the Canadian Department of Defense, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“The personnel of the 4th Canadian Division have left the Petawawa military base in Kingston, where they will begin a 14-day isolation period. The isolation of soldiers before a trip abroad will guarantee that they will be in good health when they join Operation REASSURANCE in central and eastern Europe, IMPACT operations in the Middle East and UNIFIER operations in Ukraine, “said the press release.
It should be noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, “Canadian forces respect … isolation before and after the mission in order to prevent the spread of the virus and at the same time maintain operational efficiency and capacity to conduct major operations. “

As noted, under Operation UNIFIER, approximately 200 Canadian soldiers have provided training to Ukrainian soldiers and law enforcement since 2015. During this period, more than 17,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received Canadian training. In March, against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Canadian soldiers in Ukraine decreased significantly, but this month the Canadian Department of Defense announced its intention to gradually return to a mission format in its own right.
