Card transactions in Ukraine exceed 1 billion – National Bank data

The total number of card transactions in Ukraine exceeded 1.3 billion for the first quarter of 2020, and the amount – UAH 920.5 billion. Compared to the same period in 2019, according to data from the National Bank of Ukraine, the number of such operations has increased by 24.5%, and the amount is – 15.6%.

According to the NBU Press Service, non-cash transactions prevailed in the number and amount of the first four months of this year. Their total number exceeded 1.1 billion units (85.4% of all operations), and amounted to $ 503 billion, or 54.6% of the sum of all card transactions (last year, in the first quarter, the indicator was 49, 7%).

In January – March 2020, the largest number of transactions using cards accounted for settlements in retail chains – 50.3%, and transfers dominated by card-to-card transfers – 41.3% (of such a transaction The average check for UAH was 1.505).

The total number of payment cards issued in Ukraine as of April 1, 2020 was 68.6 million pieces.

In addition, the NBU stated that Used a third of the card (31% or 11.3 million units) are contactless and tokenless. Therefore, 8.9 million contactless payment cards were used for operations in March 2020. This is 16% higher than in January 2020, National Bank’s press service.

According to the NBU, in Ukraine, nine out of ten trading POS-terminals provide contactless payments (90.2%). Last year, as of 1 April 2019, only eight out of ten terminals were contactless. Overall, the network of POS-terminals trading in Ukraine increased by 14.5% (331.4 thousand units) in the year. However, due to quarantine restrictions in March this year, the number of such devices has decreased by 0.7%. In total, as of April 1, 2020, 1 lakh Ukrainian citizens account for 8.3 thousand POS-terminals.
