Colonel Bezyazykov imprisoned for 13 years for high treason

The Kiev Shevchenkovsky District Court sentenced Ivan Bezyazykov, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to treason for 13 years’ imprisonment.

It is reported by the attorney general’s office.

“The Shevchenkovsky District Court in Kiev was found guilty of high treason and of creating a terrorist group of the Colonel of the Armed Forces and sentenced him to 13 years in prison with deprivation of military rank,” said the report.

It has been established that a soldier, who was held in captivity on the territory temporarily uncontrolled by the Ukrainian authorities in Donetsk on August 25, 2014, joined the intelligence department of the illegal armed formation of the Russian Federation and occupied the position of “ deputy head of the 1st department of analytical work ”. This “DPR” unit was created and controlled by officials of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, the FSB of the Russian Federation and representatives of the authorities of the occupying country in the uncontrolled territory of the Donetsk region.

The trial of the Colonel of the Armed Forces took place from August 2017. The court proved that it collected information on the movements of forces and assets of Ukrainian military units involved in the anti-terrorist operation in the East of Ukraine, the interrogation of other captured Ukrainian soldiers and carrying out a number of other criminal functions. He acted intentionally and realized that such activity would jeopardize the security of the State of Ukraine.

The preliminary investigation was conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the SBU.

As Ukrinform reported, in December 2016, law enforcement officials arrested Colonel Ivan Bezyazykov for cooperation with the Russian special services. According to the investigators, during his stay in captivity of terrorists, he worked in the “intelligence service” of the “DPR”.

Ivan Bezyazykov – career officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, head of the intelligence services of the former 8th corps of the armed forces. In August 2014, he was captured by DPR terrorists, and two years later, during special operation SBU, he was released.
