The bodies of the dead in a hotel room on the island of Bali, the Ukrainian spouses plan to repatriate before the end of June.

Friday, June 5, said the director of Ukrinform of the consular services department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Sergey Pogoreltsev.

“The repatriation of deceased Ukrainian citizens should be completed in approximately 3 to 4 weeks, taking into account the need to establish relevant documents and the availability of flights,” said the diplomat.

He recalled that a review of Indonesian law enforcement authorities had found methanol and ethanol in the blood of the deceased spouses. In order to identify the source of the poisoning, the investigators re-examined the scene of the incident and discovered additional physical evidence. An examination of the seized materials revealed the presence of methanol.

“In this regard, the investigation is considering a preliminary version of the causes of death of our compatriots – methanol poisoning,” said Pogoreltsev.

The director of the Department also said that the results of the autopsy of the bodies of the dead, carried out on May 18, should be ready within 1 to 1.5 months from the date of the meeting, that is, towards the end. June.

“The final conclusion on the causes of death of Ukrainians will be made by the investigator based on the results of the autopsy,” said Pogoreltsev.

As reported by Ukrinform, on April 28, the Department of Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a call from a Ukrainian citizen declaring that his parents – Ukrainian citizens – had been found dead in the bedroom of one hotels on the island of Bali (Indonesia) where they lived. Local police confirmed the deaths of two Ukrainian citizens and launched investigations. At the hospital, where the bodies of the deceased were delivered, they tested for the presence of coronavirus.

On May 4, the hospital reported that the coronavirus had not been detected in Ukrainian citizens who died on the island of Bali.
