The government has accepted and intends to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on increasing fines for fires in ecosystems.
The decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday, reports a Ukrinform correspondent.
“Society has long asked for more responsibility for such things. Today we see that there are also arson, there are no intentional fires, just because of irresponsibility. But the damage to the nature and economy of Ukraine jeopardizes critical infrastructure at times, when a fire travels with high winds to businesses or power distribution plants. This sometimes represents tens and hundreds of millions of hryvnias. Therefore, accountability needs to be strengthened, “said Prime Minister Denis Shmygal.

According to him, the responsibility should be much more severe.
“When sending this bill, in a motivation letter (to BP – ed.), Indicate that we support the initiative (of parliament – ed.) To criminalize this article. I also support that, ”said Shmygal.
As indicated, according to the Ministry of Emergencies, since the beginning of the year, as of April 6, 14,821 fires have started in the ecosystems of Ukraine, 25% more than during the same period last year .
