Metropolitan of Kiev and all of Ukraine Epiphanes noted that due to the quarantine, there is no way to consecrate the willow together, but the clergy will be in prayer nearby.
He said this in a video message posted on a Facebook page.
“Tomorrow we will celebrate a brilliant feast – the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem. Unfortunately, due to the quarantine, we cannot meet for the consecration of the willow vine. But we, the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, will be close in prayer, ”said Epiphanes.
He added that the fourth day of saints ends and that holy week begins – a period of special prayer memories of the unjust condemnation, suffering and death of the Savior on the cross.
“I urge you all to try to moderate all the passions in you and to decorate your souls with restraint, wisdom and mercy,” said Epiphanes.
As noted earlier, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky called on church leaders of all faiths to worship without the presence of believers, so as not to create a crowd and thereby contribute to the spread of coronavirus.
