In mid-March, the organizers of the Eurovision song contest 2020, which was to be held in Rotterdam from 12 to 16 May, officially canceled the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier reports had appeared in the press that negotiations were underway to postpone the event to next year. Today, the organizers of the music show made another announcement – they announced that Eurovision 2020 will take place.
Certainly, the contest will take place in an unusual format – an online broadcast awaits us. Spectators will attend a special two-hour concert during which candidates from 41 countries and participants from previous years will perform this year. The show, which will air on May 16, was titled Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light, and the decision to run it was made to unite European countries in a single fight against the coronavirus.
Unfortunately, this year there will be no Eurovision song contest. In return, we intend to unite Europe on May 16 with a unique prime-time television program. We urge all broadcasters who were to participate in the Eurovision song contest this year, as well as members of the European Broadcasting Union in other countries to broadcast this program in a spirit of unity and unity,
– Jona Ola Sanda, executive director of the competition, addressed to the official website of Eurovision 2020.
We already know that the broadcast of the show will take place on the contest’s YouTube channel, but the organizers will announce the detailed list of artists who will participate in the coming days. We will not know if Little Big, who was supposed to represent our country with the song Uno in a competition in Rotterdam, will be included.
