Even a tenth of those who were last year should not come to church - the Home Office

Last year, around 7.5 million citizens took part in Easter religious ceremonies. If this year at least one tenth of the church comes, then Ukraine will receive another epidemic of coronavirus.

This was announced by the director of the Department of Communication of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Artem Shevchenko, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

“Once again, we urge citizens not to come to religious services this year. If this happens, law enforcement officers will raise awareness so that people respect personal security measures and keep the necessary distance. If it is not possible to reach the conscience of citizens prophylactically, according to the president of the national police, Igor Klimenko, the police are ready to resort to more severe measures – administrative sanctions ” said Shevchenko.

He noted that more than 22,000 police and guards will be on duty in the temples. “Pursuant to the decision of the Minister of the Interior, all law enforcement officers who serve near churches receive all the necessary protective equipment several days in advance,” he added.

The representative of the Interior Ministry noted that, according to the national police, last year, around 7.5 million citizens participated in religious rites at Easter.

“If at least one tenth of this year comes to church, Ukraine will receive a new outbreak of coronavirus. To avoid this, we are negotiating with the Councils of Churches and asking to encourage the flocks not to come to the service, but to stay with them, “he said.

Shevchenko added that since the start of restrictive measures in the country, the police have drawn up 7,000 administrative protocols, including against the clergy.

The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also recalled that, in accordance with the decision of the Kiev Commission on industrial and environmental disasters, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was closed to the public. There are police and guard guards.

As Ukrinform reported on May 13, Kiev’s mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that Pechersk’s Kiev Kiev laurel was closed by quarantine by decision of the capital’s emergency committee. In Lavra, more than 100 people infected with a coronavirus have been detected.

In Ukraine, as of April 18, 5106 cases of COVID-19 had been laboratory confirmed, including 133 fatalities, 275 people recovered. During the day, 444 new cases were recorded.

According to Worldometer, 2,251,770 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide, of which 154,311 are fatal, 574,386 people have recovered.
