GDB investigates approximately 5,000 cases of police abuse
The most experienced GBR investigators are investigating around 5,000 criminal proceedings for ill-treatment by law enforcement officials.

“The State Bureau of Investigation investigates approximately 5,000 criminal proceedings into the mistreatment of law enforcement officials, including torture,” said the statement.
As noted, this was stated by the Director of the National Investigation Office, Alexander Sokolov, at a coordination meeting of law enforcement officials regarding the state of resistance to torture by officials of the law enforcement, as well as inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. The event took place on Thursday June 4 at the Attorney General’s office.

“Corresponding units have been created in the structure of the General Investigation Directorate and the GDB Territorial Directions, which are conducting preliminary investigations into the facts of the commission of crimes by law enforcement officials, in particular regarding ill-treatment and torture. The category of crimes indicated is the subject of an investigation by the most experienced investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation, ”summarizes Sokolov.
As Ukrinform reported, participants in the meeting with the Attorney General’s Office agreed, among other things, to intensify activities aimed at identifying criminal offenses by law enforcement authorities.

To this end, in particular, it was decided to improve the registration system for detained persons; fix all investigative and procedural actions with their participation, including the results of the physical examination and bodily harm; a mechanism to apply security measures to persons who have been victims of ill-treatment, in particular those in places of detention.
