The Cabinet of Ministers voted for Ukraine to join the “Biarritz International Partnership” on the equality of women and men, which was initiated by First Lady Elena Zelenskaya during her speech at the Third Congress of Ukrainian women last December.

This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine.

“This decision is an important step for our country towards the creation of equal opportunities for all Ukrainians. The joint efforts of ministries, members of parliament, international partners and public organizations have already done a lot of work to prepare an action plan for meeting Ukraine’s obligations under the Partnership. But there is still work to be done for its implementation, and the development of equal opportunities should continue to be a priority for Ukraine as a European state, “said the president’s wife.

Ukraine, as a member of the Biarritz Partnership, is committed to five areas: developing a barrier-free public space that is friendly for families with children and people with reduced mobility; teaching the principles of equality of women and men; prevention of violence.

The state should also work to reduce the gender pay gap and create more opportunities for men to care for children.

It should be noted that the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, will soon send a corresponding letter from the government to the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic indicating Ukraine’s participation in the Biarritz partnership .

The Biarritz Partnership was founded by the leaders of the countries of the Group of Seven (G7) at a summit in Biarritz (France) on August 25, 2019, chaired by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the accountability of the G7 and to consolidate the efforts of other states in achieving gender equality.
