The Federal Republic of Germany will provide Ukraine with special equipment to locate forest fires around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

“On behalf of the federal government, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) transfers, as of today, special equipment to the Ukraine Emergency Service (SES) to locate forest fires around the ‘former Soviet Chernobyl nuclear power plant,’ the statement said.
It is noted that the assistance includes 80 dosimeters to measure radioactivity and approximately 15 km of fire hoses. In addition, a fire truck specially equipped for forest and plant fires is being acquired. According to the embassy, the aid is 230 thousand euros.
“We are pleased to learn that the fight against fires is a success thanks to the large-scale involvement of emergency situations in the State of Ukraine. In order to support and protect courageous firefighters in their fight we responded quickly and, in coordination with the state emergency ministry, we bought dosimeters, fire hoses and a fire truck “- said German Ambassador Anka Feldguzen.
At the same time, the embassy recalled that Germany had supported the State Emergency Service and the Ukrainian Red Cross since 2015. Since then, 150 units of the State emergency services in 120 local authorities have been equipped with new equipment and training activities: among others, 2,000 respiratory devices, 5,500 face masks, 4,100 personal protective suits, 240 kilometers of fire hoses, 50 water pumps, 60 tonnes of foam were transferred to firefighting partners, 12 ambulances, 50 fire trucks and 3,500 pairs of gloves, boots and helmets for firefighters.
On behalf of the federal government, state emergency services also received protective masks, protective overalls and portable disinfection devices worth 175 thousand euros last week COVID-19.

As reported, on April 4, a forest fire broke out in the Chernobyl area. They managed to publish it on April 14. It was noted that there is no longer any open fire, slow combustion is observed in individual homes. However, already on April 16, the fire started again.
