How a bank customer cannot become a victim of frauds: Oleg Gorokhovsky’s advice

Unfortunately, despite the development of protection technologies and increased financial literacy, bank customers are still frequently victims of fraud. Co-founder of Ukraine’s first Monobank mobile bank Oleg Gorokhovsky shared in his Telegram channel Important tips to avoid this.

1. Phishing – Clicking on fake links that mimic the original client-bank in which the user is served.

How to avoid phishing? When you first entered Client Bank, you can only access Client Bank using the direct link saved in your browser. Banks never send letters with a link to their customer’s bank gateway. But still if they send, ignore these links. Go to your bank address yourself, save it in your browser and never enter the customer bank. The same applies to the trading floor, such as OLX. They do not send separate links for payment and you only need to pay on their website.

2. Fake call.

If you get an incoming call / message from the bank, and you have not dialed the bank yourself or do not write the bank to your normal messenger, never give any information other than harmless answers to questions such as you Interested in the kind of service or not. No code, PIN code, password sent for SMS – nothing. Even if the caller tells you that something bad will happen without this code.

3. A virus infection of the computer on which the customer stored all appearances and passwords.

It is easily treated. Do not store passwords on desktop. The risk of hacking and viruses in smartphones is low, although it is not completely safe. It is better to invent passwords using a complex algorithm and not write them down anywhere. Choose a bank that has a good mobile application and in principle do not use a desktop client bank. If fraudsters try to log in to your account from the desktop, it will be unusual activity, and fraudulent rules should work for the bank.

Also check your computer regularly for viruses.

4. Voluntary transfer of money to the fraudster for “good” reasons.

Usually they ask a relative to release them from prison, to pay a lottery ticket that has already won a car, etc. This is very similar to how some voluntarily give money on the street to some fatalists and magicians. What to advise? Just be a little more careful and think.
