The peak load on the healthcare system will occur when the number of patients using mechanical ventilation begins to approach 2,000.

Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said so in an interview with Ukrainian truth.

“When we talk about the peak, we must clearly distinguish between the fact that we have the ability of the health care system to provide medical care in a hospital. … Relatively speaking, if suddenly tomorrow, we will have not 155 people on mechanical ventilation in first wave hospitals, but, God forbid, it will start to grow very strongly, and this number will start to approach 2,000 ventilation devices, then we will immediately introduce the second wave. the peak load on the healthcare system, “said Stepan. in.

Now, according to Stepanov, 10 to 15% of beds are occupied in 243 hospitals designated to receive the first wave of patients with COVID-19, out of 2,097 mechanical ventilation devices, 155 are occupied (at the time of the interview on April 22 – red).

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Health Officer, Viktor Lyashko, said that, at the same time, hospitals in the first wave could receive 3,500 patients with COVID-19.
