In Istanbul, in the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Phanar, a festive service was held in Ukrainian on the occasion of Ascension Day.

This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.

“With the blessing of the ecumenical patriarch Bartholomew, Archimandrite Harlampy will perform the liturgy. The service is traditionally organized in the Ukrainian language, “said the Ukrainian Consulate General in Istanbul.

Diffusion services were carried out online.

Two representatives of the Ukrainian community of Istanbul, Tatyana Fetsan and Olga Kovalenko, participated in the festive service as singers of the church choir.

“We are very pleased that the plan was successful and that the service took place despite the curfew in Istanbul today. On the one hand, it was a little sad that there was no one other than the participants in the church service. But on the other hand, we focused only on service, no one and nothing distracted our attention, “said Tatyana Fetsan, president of the Union of Ukrainian Mutual Assistance Society.

Two members of the clergy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate also participated in the service: Archimandrite Kharlampiy and Vladyka Adrian and representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. The online program was provided by the representative of the Crimean Tatar Diaspora Jafer Umerov.

After the service, they held a traditional treat that met the requirements of social distance.

Archimandrite Kharlampiy, a member of the clergy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, who presided over the service today, conducts it for the first time in Ukrainian. Has done this before in different cities of Turkey, especially in Istanbul and Ankara. Thus, in October, a liturgy took place in the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the occasion of the feast of the protection of the Blessed Virgin and the day of the defender of Ukraine. Archimandrite Kharlampiy is also known to have preserved the manuscript of Tomos during the granting of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, and kept it until the time of its delivery.
