In Ukraine recorded more than 7 thousand new cases of hepatitis C
At the start of the year, 7,179 new cases of hepatitis C were registered in Ukraine.
It is reported by the Center for Public Health.
“As of January 1 this year, 7,179 new cases of hepatitis C (HCV) had been registered in Ukraine. 87,269 people are under control. 7,302 people were treated in 2019. During the same period, 1,848 new cases of viral hepatitis B virus (HBV). 23,631 people are under control. Last year, 1,829 people were treated, “said the report.
In total, according to the Center for Public Health, 1,342,418 Ukrainians are infected with HCV and 559,341 with HBV.

The DSP noted that hepatitis B can be protected by vaccination. The hepatitis C vaccine does not exist. Hepatitis is currently incurable, while hepatitis C is treatable.
As of May 1 this year, 60,627 children under the age of one had been vaccinated against viral hepatitis B, or 19.5% of the planned vaccinations.
Reminder: hepatitis is an inflammatory liver disease, usually of viral origin. Hepatitis B and C are the two main types of viral hepatitis that can cause cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

HBV and HCV account for 96% of all deaths from hepatitis. According to the WHO, around 325 million people worldwide are living with a chronic infection caused by the hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C.
