Since September 17, the Soviet Union has become a participant in the Second World War alongside Germany. The Soviet army crossed the border of the Polish Republic and began military operations against the Polish army. More than 700 cities and urban-type establishments, nearly 30,000 villages have been transformed into complete ruins.

Immigrants from Ukraine contributed significantly to the victory over Nazism. On the side of the United Nations, they fought in the armies of Great Britain and Canada – 45,000 people, Poland – 120,000, the USSR – about 6 million, the United States – 80,000 and France – 6,000, as well as in Ukraine even in the ranks of the UPA there were up to 100,000 people.

For several years, the official symbol of the celebration of the Day of Victory over Nazism during the Second World War has been the red poppy flower – the universally accepted symbol of the celebration of memorable days.

This year, on the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation – May 8 and the Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second World War – May 9, the Ukrainian Institute of Remembrance begins indefinite fully Ukrainian action ” Family history of war “. To participate in the action, Ukrainians are invited to publish their story on any social network under the hashtag # RodinnііstorіїVіyni and add a photo of a family member whose story you share to the text.
