Infectious hospitals to fund $ 333 million through medical guarantees program

The National Health Service of Ukraine has concluded agreements with the 18 infectious disease hospitals in the country; more than 333 million hryvnia is planned for their funding under the medical guarantees program.

It is reported by the NSZU.

“Since April 3, 2020, the National Health Service of Ukraine has concluded an agreement with the 18 hospitals for infectious diseases which will provide assistance to patients with infectious diseases as part of the therapeutic package. The infectious hospitals, which have submitted their proposals to the NHA for assistance under the medical guarantees program, are located in different regions of the country. 333,962.2 thousand UAH are planned for the funding of these infectious hospitals “, – said in a statement.

It should be noted that, despite the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection, the NHA redistributed 906 million hryvnias from the medical guarantee program and, by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, they were sent to a subsidy to the regions to support hospital activities during a pandemic. With these funds, local authorities can support the hospitals they define, including infectious hospitals.

In addition, according to the NHA, as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus infection in Ukraine, 242 first wave medical facilities have been identified that would be the first to receive patients with coronavirus. The list of these hospitals will increase if necessary. You can see information about hospitals and their level of equipment on the new NSSU table. Among these hospitals there are also infectious hospitals – for example, the infectious disease hospital of the city of Cherkasy, the regional infectious disease hospital of Kharkov, etc.

The concerned health establishments recommended by the NHA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health are selected and approved by the heads of oblasts, regional health departments. The requirements for the formation of a network of these institutions are approved by the chief medical officer of health Viktor Lyashko (decree n ° 7 of 27/03/2020).

It should be noted that the definition of these hospitals is the common position of the heads of regional state administrations, the Ministry of Health and the NSZU. Patient safety is chosen as the priority selection criteria so that people hospitalized with COVID-19 receive all necessary medical services without having to be transferred to another hospital if the condition worsens. COVID-19 patients with worsening conditions will be hospitalized in hospitals.

In total, according to information provided by the NHA by heads of establishments and local health services, in 242 hospitals, there are 12 thousand infectious beds, more than 1700 places in intensive care units and more than 1800 devices mechanical ventilation.
