Interior Ministry hopes to cut road fatalities by half in five years
The Interior Ministry hopes that in the next 5 years, the death rate on the roads of Ukraine can be reduced by 2 times.
This was announced during a briefing by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Anton Gerashchenko, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“With the reform of the road infrastructure system, the improvement of the quality of education in our schools and universities, as well as the fact that we have to change the culture of the attitude of drivers towards other road users , we think that in the next 5 years we will be able to reduce the mortality on Ukrainian roads in 2 steps, “said Gerashchenko.

He said last year 3,454 people were killed on the roads of Ukraine, including 166 children.
“In European countries, the road fatality rate is 5 to 6 times lower than that of Ukraine. Therefore, our goal – through the introduction of a speed control system which will subsequently control the traffic light at a red light, will travel on a lane for public transport, violations of the rules of stopping and parking – we believe that this system will lead to a significant reduction in the number of deaths. our roads, ”said the deputy minister.
As an example, Gerashchenko cited the situation in Poland where, after the introduction of such a system, the number of deaths in recent years has decreased by 30%.

As reported, on June 1, an automatic photo and video recording system for traffic violations started operating in Kiev and the Kiev region.
The cameras were installed in Kiev and on the highways of the Kiev region in places of concentration of traffic accidents with serious consequences.
