Interior Ministry says they are second after doctors at risk for COVID-19 infection
Law enforcement officers are second only to doctors in terms of risk and in fact of coronavirus infection, 16.5 thousand of them are involved every day to ensure quarantine measures.
This was underlined by the Deputy Minister of the Interior Anton Gerashchenko, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“From the start, rescuers, police, border guards, the National Guard and doctors have been and remain at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. Most staff have been involved in measures to control the spread of the coronavirus – from customs clearance at borders, to health posts in the hardest-hit areas looking for people with coronavirus who have voluntarily left hospitals. Employees of the Interior Ministry are second in terms of risk and after infection after doctors, “said Gerashchenko.
According to him, more than 16.5 thousand law enforcement officers are involved in Ukraine every day to provide quarantine and security measures. Of this number, 13.5 thousand police officers, 509 of whom are directly involved in the security of medical facilities where people infected with the coronavirus are treated.
In addition, 2,000 national guards, 1.5,000 border guards and 22 employees of the State Emergency Service also join daily to carry out quarantine.

The ministry noted that 709 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases have already been registered in the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and that 605 people have now recovered.
To date, the police have established 12,694 administrative protocols under s. 44-3 (Violation of the rules of quarantine of persons) of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses. 169 criminal proceedings have been opened, they added to the interior ministry.
As indicated, the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada adopted a government decree No. 485 of June 10, 2020 on the allocation of 2.6 billion UAH for supplements to employees of the system of the Interior Ministry. Additional funds should be used to pay increases of up to 50% of salary to police, national guards, border guards, and doctors in the Home Office system who treat patients with COVID-19.
