The Ukrainian security services in Kiev denounced and stopped the activities of a group of Internet agitators who, for money from the Russian Federation, distributed false content on COVID-19 in the Ukrainian Facebook segment.
This was reported by the SBU press service.
“Special service agents discovered that two attackers had carried out orders from Russia to publish false information about the spread of the coronavirus. Their aim was to cause panic, to discredit the actions of the authorities and to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine. To popularize COVID-19 counterfeits, they actively used a network of robot accounts, inaccurate information purposely extracted from banned Russian social networks. The tasks were defined by the clients via the closed VKontakte group, where the Internet agitators reported on the work accomplished, ”the report said.
It should be noted that compensation for illegal activities came from the portfolios of the electronic payment systems of the Russian Federation with maximum customer anonymity.
Residents of Kiev, now at risk, pleaded guilty, provided access to accounts in closed communities, and helped identify “conservatives.”
Urgent steps are underway to establish both direct customers and other potential Internet agitator partners.
