For three years, the national telecommunications operator Kyivstar, through the implementation of the Search for Children project, has helped the national police find more than 400 missing children.

“For the past three years, Kyivstar has been cooperating with the national police and jointly implementing the” Search for Children “project – an SMS newsletter aimed at finding subscribers who have seen a missing child. Meanwhile, a mobile operator has broadcast 406 SMS throughout Ukraine at the request of the police. The message was received by more than 5.5 million Kyivstar subscribers located near the presumed place of disappearance of the child, “said the message.

Anna Zakharash, director of corporate relations at Kyivstar, expressed gratitude to all concerned subscribers who are helping the national police find the missing children. “After all, the combined efforts of professionals and society are able to send the missing child home as soon as possible,” she said.

According to police, in 2019, 16,846 reports of missing children were received, 92.7% of whom were able to return home. At the same time, the number of missing children in Ukraine has decreased considerably during the quarantine period. In March-April 2020, 1,823 requests were received for lost children, which is 25% less than during the same period in 2019. Then, the police received 2,282 of these reports.

According to the head of the national juvenile prevention police of Ukraine Larisa Zub, when a child disappears, the police make a great effort to find him as soon as possible and Kyivstar Search for Children provides significant assistance. “The most important thing is that the wanted child does not find himself in an unpleasant situation or is the victim of a crime. For these purposes, we use various means and methods to refer the child to his parents or to social institutions as soon as possible. An extremely necessary and effective tool for rapid action is by using the services of Kyivstar “Search for children”. In this project, partnership and communication with society, the involvement of the citizens sought in research is important because their participation allows the police to find a child as soon as possible, and it works, “she said.
