The defense appealed the preventive measure chosen by the court in the form of a 24-hour house arrest for activist Sergei Sternenko.

Lawyer Nikolay Orekhovsky told the correspondent of Ukrinform about it.

“Yes, of course, an appeal has already been filed. They will be examined by the Kiev court of appeal in Solomenskaya square,” he said.

As reported by Ukrinform, on June 15, the Shevchenkovsky District Court in Kiev chose Sternenko as a measure of restraint in the form of a house arrest. At the same time, according to the activist, the place of house arrest in the court decision indicated “a military unit in Odessa”, instead of registration, but he “was not allowed to go there because it’s a sensitive business. “

“This decision cannot be executed,” said the activist and noted that prosecutors could then “request detention” for his non-compliance.

Subsequently, the prosecutor filed a motion to change the address of the house arrest.

Tuesday June 16, Kiev Shevchenkovsky District Court judge Elena Meleshak granted the prosecutor’s request in the Sternenko case concerning a change of address for the execution of a preventive measure at the place of registration in Odessa at the place of residence in Kiev.

At the same time, Sternenko noted that, according to the court decision, monitoring of the activist’s compliance with the preventive measure in the form of house arrest was the responsibility of the Odessa police.

On June 11, Sternenko declared suspected of having committed crimes under art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 para. 2 (transport of cold steel without the authorization provided for by law) of the Criminal Code.

On the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. While pushing back, the activist fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself and the second attacker were stabbed and wounded, which the police quickly arrested, but immediately released, granting him witness status and then state protection.
