Local authorities should be allowed to launch public transport – Zelensky
Local authorities should be allowed to resume public transport to get people to and from work, but subject to the safety of the coronavirus infection.
President Vladimir Zelensky said this in a traditional conference call to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection, according to the head of state’s website.
“If you have already decided to open the transport, you must authorize the local authorities to open it where they see the possibility of ensuring security. People are going to work and they have to be able to get there. The main thing is to remember security, “said Zelensky.
Prior to that, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said the government plans to launch public transportation in the next phase of the quarantine easing.
At the same time, the Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov noted that now the situation in eight regions does not meet the criteria that would allow the resumption of public transport. In particular, according to the minister, there are few tests for COVID-19, but the situation can change within a week.
As noted, the government introduced quarantine in Ukraine on March 12 to combat the spread of coronavirus infection, which causes COVID-19 disease. In particular, commercial establishments were closed, except for grocery stores, pharmacies, petrol stations and banks. Subway work in Kiev, Kharkov and Dnipro has been stopped, land transport in cities has been stopped, inter-city and inter-regional car, rail and air communications have been stopped.

On May 4, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the quarantine, but as of May 11, some restrictions were relaxed.
Prime Minister Denis Shmygal has suggested that after May 22 quarantine in Ukraine will be extended, but further weakening is expected.

In Ukraine, at 9 a.m. on April 18, there were 18,616 patients with COVID-19, during the last day, their number increased by 325. During the last day, 21 patients with coronavirus died, 160 people recovered.
