One of Berkut’s former officers will be tried for dispersing activists on Independence Square on November 30, 2013.

“According to the results of a preliminary investigation by investigators from the Investigation Bureau into crimes committed during mass protests in 2013-2014, the National Bureau of Investigation, under the procedural direction of prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office general, sent an indictment to the court against a former police officer of the special regiment “Golden Eagle”, subordinate to the main direction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the city of Kiev “, according to the report.
The former police officer is accused of abuse of power, which was accompanied by violence, official falsification and committing by an official, prior conspiracy by a group of people, illegal obstruction of meetings, rallies, etc. . (Part 1 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 365 and Part 1 of Article 366, Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that on November 30, 2013, the ex-Berkutovets exceeded his official authority and placed in administrative detention a participant in a peaceful meeting on Independence Square, “by which he illegally obstructed the organization and holding the meeting, and also knowingly compiled false official documents. “

In addition, investigators from the Investigation Bureau for crimes committed during mass protests in 2013-2014, the National Investigation Bureau, in consultation with the Attorney General’s Office, reported suspicions to the former police officer of the Berkut Special Purpose Regiment, subordinate to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kiev.
The former law enforcement officer is suspected of having overstepped official powers, which has been accompanied by violence, official forgery, and the commission of an official by prior conspiracy of a group of people. illegal obstruction of meetings, rallies, etc. (Part 1 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 365 and Part 1 of Article 366, Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that on November 30, 2013, the suspect had exceeded his official authority and detained a participant in a peaceful meeting on Independence Square. Thus, during the detention, the former law enforcement officer used physical force against the victim, which illegally hampered the organization and holding of the meeting. Subsequently, the suspect wrote a report on the victim’s detention, in which he deliberately provided false information.
According to the GPU, it was possible to identify 25 police officers responsible for shooting Institutskaya. 20 of them are now on the wanted list.
A total of 2.5 thousand people suffered during the events of the Revolution of Dignity, of which 104 died. Subsequently, the dead participants in the protests began to be called Heavenly Hundred.
Thus, during the period from February 18 to 20, 2014, a hundred people died in central Kiev, several dozen disappeared, more than a thousand were injured and hundreds were arrested and tortured.
