Maria Mashkova / protesters in the United States
Anti-racist protests continue in the United States, involving both ordinary citizens and their famous compatriots. Social media has become a gathering place for Black Lives Matter attendees and an exchange of information. Russian actress Maria Mashkova, 35, who lives in the United States with her husband and children, looks aside, shares comments on her Instagram. I live between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, where the last few days, in addition to peace protests, are coming together (from different states, they say) to rob and smash stores. I constantly hear the sound of helicopters, and our grocery store was full of plunder boards. Being a Russian girl, who turned out to be the first time in America at the age of 23, I don’t understand much. Our protests are different from local protests … radically! Knowledge of textbooks is not enough. Yesterday, I heard a monologue from the director of my children’s school (white, adult woman) on racism and what goes on through the window. I was amazed at how openly and adult they talk to the kids. The second day, I listen to the girls’ lessons … Now Fanina, the teacher asked the children to speak. I sit on the floor, listen to the children and a lot of things become simple and clear. Well, what is good and what is bad also becomes evident, ”wrote Maria on the social network.
The actress and her husband, musician and businessman Alexander Slobodyanik Jr., raise two daughters: Stefania, 10, and Alexandra, 8.
Mashkova added the #blackouttuesday tag to his words on the net, uniting many protesters against police brutality against African Americans. A wave of discontent arose after the death of the 46-year-old black-skinned George Floyd who died on May 25 while in police custody in Minneapolis.
