The incident happened this morning, May 26, near Coal Mines airfield, in Chukotka, with a Mi-8 helicopter. It should be noted that this is the second fatal accident with Mi-8 in the Russian Federation in a few days.

According to the data, a military helicopter flew a training flight and hovered – checking the engine in the air. At a height of 15 meters, the helicopter began to fall.
After the fall, the helicopter caught fire. At that time, there were 4 soldiers on board. They are all dead.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the accident could be a technical malfunction. Two black boxes have already been found at the crash site, they are in good condition. The disaster will be investigated at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that a similar accident occurred in Russia several days ago, also with the Mi-8 helicopter: then three crew members died as a result of a hard landing.
