More than 2.5 thousand Ukrainians returned via Istanbul via special flights – Consul General
After regular flights between Ukraine and Turkey ended with special flights at the end of March, more than 2.5 thousand Ukrainian citizens returned.
In an interview with Ukrinform, said the Ukrainian consul general in Istanbul, Alexander Gaman.
“From March 20 to 28, SkyUp made 12 such flights. In general, more than 2.5 thousand Ukrainians took off. Each flight was almost 100% complete,” said Gaman.
According to him, the last flight, which was to be made on the night of March 28, was the best known, because by decree of the President of Turkey, air communication stopped completely after March 27. “We and all the passengers were already at the airport. But the flight was delayed because the plane was late compared to the previous flight. Subsequently, the airline reported that the Turkish side had canceled the flight because the plane hadn’t had time to fly before the plane travel ban. And we’re waiting at the airport. ” more than 200 citizens, “said the diplomat.
As a result, thanks to the efforts of diplomats and the help of the Turkish side, the flight was completed. In addition, Turkish partners assisted passengers in the airport transit area, when it was no longer fully functioning, by providing food and protective equipment.
