More than 5.5 thousand citizens returned by special flights from Germany to Ukraine – Ambassador
In recent weeks, more than 5.5 thousand Ukrainians have returned from Germany on special flights.
This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk in an interview with Radio Liberty.
“In recent weeks, we have organized 28 flights from Germany with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the government. In total, more than 5.5 thousand of our fellow citizens were able to return home without hindrance. From Berlin, almost 2,000 of our fellow citizens have taken advantage of this opportunity, ”said Melnik.
He noted that now “we have a new wave; it is a little smaller. “
“To date, 6 new flights have already been recorded. These were cases that were not critical, like 4 or 5 weeks ago. So we keep this situation on our radar. And we are trying to help as much as possible all citizens who find themselves in a difficult situation, “said the diplomat.
Asked about the possible opening of the border by Germany for those who want to go there to work, he said that “we have such a direct dialogue on the needs that the German side declares”.

“We have a number of official requests from the German authorities. We are talking about several thousand people to whom these requests were addressed to the Ukrainian authorities. I am convinced that it is thanks to this systematic vision that we will be able to find solutions which will be in the interest of the Ukrainian workers themselves, the Ukrainian State and our German partners, “said Melnik.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian government introduced quarantine on March 12 to combat the spread of coronavirus infection. As part of the restrictive measures, in particular, from March 28, Ukraine completely closed the border for regular communications, including aviation.
