The National Bank nominated the winners of the competition for “Best Coin of the Year of Ukraine” 2019.
In nomination “Best Coin of the Year” The victory was awarded a set of four commemorative coins “pectoral” (silver, the face value of each coin is 10 UAH).
In nomination “Best Revealed Subject” The commemorative coin won the “Provision of Tomos on Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (nickel silver, coin value 5 UAH).
Recall that the competition “Ukraine’s best coin of the year” has been held annually since 2005 and takes place in two stages. The first phase of the competition, during which more than 2 thousand people voted, ran from 3 February to 6 April this year. In the second phase of the competition, specially formed commission members determined the best coins of 2019 into two categories by secret electronic voting. This year, among the commemorative coins that reached the finals of the competition, the winners were chosen by experts from the National Bank of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, the National Museum, as well as Fine Art and Numismatics.

On September 2, 1996, the National Bank introduced the coins of modern Ukraine. The first commemorative coins were issued by the National Bank of Ukraine in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
