Maeve Kennedy Townsend Mackin
The cause of death for Robert Kennedy’s granddaughter, Maeve, 40, who died with his eight-year-old son Gideon in Chesapeake Bay last week, has become known. One day after rescuers found the woman’s body, a forensic investigator officially announced the cause of her death – Maeve Kennedy Townsend Mackin was drowned in an accident.
The great-granddaughter of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, and his son Gideon swam in a canoe for a baby ball that fell in the water, but due to the strong wind and, perhaps, for other reasons, could not return to shore. Maeve’s child has yet to be found, but there is no hope of salvation, authorities say, so the rescue operation has been stopped.
The accident occurred near the house where the Kennedy family was buried. The rescue operation lasted approximately 26 hours – all that time, rescuers in helicopters and boats searched for Maeve and Gideon, passing 3,600 square miles along the coast of Chesapeake Bay.
