Ukrainian National Guard commander Mykola Balan fell ill with COVID-19.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Anton Gerashchenko on Facebook.
“The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Lieutenant-General Nikolai Balan, today confirmed a positive test for the coronavirus,” wrote Gerashchenko.
According to him, Balan’s disease is almost asymptomatic, his state of health is satisfactory.
“General Balan has been isolated since today. All those who have been in contact with him recently will be tested,” he said.
Gerashchenko noted that now the functions of commander of the National Guard are exercised by the first deputy – Lieutenant-General Vladimir Kondratyuk.

“The National Guard continues to fulfill its assigned tasks fully,” said Gerashchenko.
As Ukrinform reported, by the morning of April 17, 4,662 cases of COVID-19 had been registered in Ukraine, of which 125 were fatal, 246 patients recovered. 501 new cases were recorded per day.
