Nearly 6,000 doctors in Ukraine fell ill with COVID-19 – Lyashko
In Ukraine, almost 6,000 health workers fell ill with COVID-19.
Chief medical officer of health Viktor Lyashko said this on the conference entitled “The Right to Power” on the 1 + 1 TV channel, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“This is probably the first epidemic in the country where a single case of infection from a medical worker is not hidden. Preliminary statistics, when various international projects were working to eliminate internal hospital infections, never showed real statistics in life. In our country, up to 4,000 cases of infectious diseases have been registered each year among medical personnel associated with the provision of medical care in hospitals. Today, we already have nearly 6,000 infected medical workers, ”said Lyashko.
He added that all cases of infection of COVID-19 medical personnel have been recorded, that an epidemiological investigation is in progress on them and that in future they will be paid either as an occupational disease or in the event of death , the family will receive up to 1.5 million UAH.

The Chief Medical Health Officer called to report to the Department of Health cases where doctors with COVID-19 while providing medical care had not been diagnosed with an occupational disease and therefore had not received legal payment.
Lyashko also said that the Ministry of Health has developed a strategy to contain the nosocomial infection because we see the number of medical workers who become infected when they provide medical care.
As Ukrinform reported, as of June 18, 34,063 cases of COVID-19 had been laboratory confirmed in Ukraine, of which 15,447 were recovered, 966 died. In the last day, 829 cases were laboratory confirmed. In total, the disease was confirmed in 2506 children and 5716 doctors.
