Despite urgent WHO recommendations, contrary to the Belarusians’ petition to postpone the parade, contrary to the example of neighboring countries and, ultimately, contrary to common sense, the President of Belarus decided to hold the parade on the day of victory on May 9.
On this subject, it is written “MFN” referring to “Radio freedom“.
Alexander Lukashenko does not intend to postpone the Victory Day parade. According to the statements of the head of Belarus, veterans and ordinary citizens want a vacation … But the situation with COVID-19 in the country is not already so critical:
“I have been thinking for a long time about the possible cancellation of the victory parade. But the veterans of the Great Patriotic War themselves asked to be brought to the party. And hundreds of thousands more want the parade to take place.
We simply cannot cancel the parade. We can’t do that. I really thought about it for a long time. We must not forget that during the war, these people may have died of all kinds of viruses and diseases … But they did not think about it and continued to die for us. “
It should be noted that to date, in Belarus, 16,705 cases of coronavirus have been officially registered: 99 have been fatal and 3,196 people have already been cured.
Recall that we had previously reported that Belarus ranks first in terms of the spread of the coronavirus in Europe.
