The availability of first wave hospitals with personal protective equipment, drugs and medical personnel allows them to receive a fairly large number of potentially sick patients with COVID-19.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal at a press conference on the theme “100 days of government” on June 11, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.

“When we created the analytical system (supply of personal protective equipment and medical data for the equipment of first wave hospitals – editor’s note), there was less than 40% of the filling of first wave hospitals with equipment personal protection and medicines, less than 70% – 61% – were provided by medical personnel, by doctors. Today, these indicators vary between 70% and 80%, that is to say that the “first wave” of the medical system is ready to accept, if necessary, a sufficiently large number of people likely to fall ill. Society is ready, we don’t panic. Doctors are also mentally prepared, “said Shmygal.

He also noted that the difficulties in paying doctors working with COVID-19 patients in March, 300% of the salary, were due to the system’s reluctance to deal with these problems while the government fulfilled its obligations.

“300% of payments to doctors who had difficulties in March because the system was not ready for such things. In fact, there has been a transition to a new reformed model for managing the medical system and payments in the medical system. The government fulfilled its obligations by transferring funds to the regions, the salaries of doctors and medical workers involved in COVID-19 were paid in March, “said Shmygal.

He pointed out that in April and in the future, these payments are made through the National Health Service at rates that take into account the increase in wages.

“In April-May, payments are already made systematically through the price mechanisms of the NLHA, and doctors who meet COVID-19 will receive their salary increased by 300% in full and without delay”, underlined the Premier minister.
