Today, at the Meshchansky Court in Moscow, a regular meeting was held on the case of the Seventh Studio. Recall that his accused, including Kirill Serebrennikov, the director of the Gogol center, 50 years old, are accused of fraud and embezzlement of public funds for more than one hundred million rubles allocated to the Platform theater project.
According to the prosecutor Mikhail Rezchenko, the prosecution considers that the guilt of all parties to the case is proven and, for Serebrennikov, he asked for six years in prison and a fine of 800 thousand rubles.
The prosecution considers that the indictment was fully confirmed during the proceedings and that a conviction should be imposed on each accused, despite the lack of admission of guilt. At the same time, the prosecution corrects the amount of damages from 133 million 237 thousand rubles to 128 million 974 thousand rubles,
– noted Rezchenko.
In August 2017, Kirill Serebrennikov was arrested in a fraud case. He was charged with embezzlement of 133 million rubles, which were allocated from the federal budget for the implementation of his experimental theater project. He spent over a year and a half under house arrest and, in April of last year, he was released voluntarily.
In addition to Serebrennikov, the Seventh Studio case also includes his former general producer Alexei Malobrodsky and his general accountant Yuri Itin, his former employee at the Ministry of Culture Sofya Apfelbaum and his accountant Nina Maslyaeva. She was the only one to plead guilty and agreed to participate in the investigation.
Today, Russian cultural figures, including Konstantin Bogomolov, Pavel Lungin, Liya Akhedzhakova, Ksenia Rappoport, Maxim Vitorgan, Danila Kozlovsky, Chulpan Khamatova and many others, wrote an open letter to the Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova to ask the withdrawal from the trial in “The Seventh Studio” and “Promoting a fair resolution of the process.”
