BP’s temporary committee of inquiry held the last meeting to inquire into information regarding compliance with legal requirements when the owner of the information channels changed and to ensure that Russia’s influence was neutralized ‘information.
This was announced by a member of the VSK, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada commission on humanitarian and information policy, Alexander Tkachenko (faction “Servant of the People”) on Facebook.
“We held the last meeting of the Temporary Commission of Inquiry into respect for the law during the change of owner of several information channels which today belong to only one person – the right arm of Medvedchuk, MP Taras Kozak. It’s 112 ZIK and NewsOne, “wrote Tkachenko.
The deputy noted that neither Taras Kozak nor the leaders of these television stations had ever appeared at the VSK meetings.
“Although neither Mr. Kozak nor the leaders of these channels ever appeared at commission meetings, we still managed to get enough information. We heard reports from law enforcement officials , a meeting was held with former owner Andrei Podshchipkov, and a number of other measures “, – said Alexander Tkachenko.
He added that the VSK report will be released after his hearing at the Verkhovna Rada.
“I hope that our achievements will constitute a new step towards the establishment of total transparency of the ownership structure of Ukrainian television channels and will not allow the monopolization of information in the interest of the various political forces”, said Tkachenko.
As Ukrinform reported, on October 17, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada established a temporary committee of inquiry to investigate information regarding compliance with legal requirements when the ownership of news channels changed and ensure the neutralization of the impact of the Russian Federation on information.
The activities of this VSK concern in particular an in-depth control of the circumstances of the acquisition, sources of income and movement of funds during the change of owner of the television channels NewsOne, 112 Ukraine and ZIK.
Olga Vasilevskaya-Smaglyuk, popular deputy of the Servant of the People faction, was elected president of the Temporary Committee of Inquiry and Aleksandr Ustinova, member of the Voice faction, was elected vice-president of the VSK.
