Russian court arrests journalist Moujdabaev in absentia for “calls to terrorism”

“The court acceded to the investigator’s request to take preventive measures against Moujdabaev in the form of detention in absentia. According to the Russian investigation, Ayder Muzhdabaev, who left for Ukraine in 2015, “published on his personal page on the social network Facebook two texts which called for acts of violence and the forcible seizure of citizens of the Federation of Russia located in Ukraine, for their subsequent exchange against Oleg Sentsov, found guilty of terrorist crimes in Russia. “
The ministry recalled that since 1998, Muzhdabaev worked in the editorial staff of the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets in Moscow, since 2008 he was deputy editor and, in 2015, he moved to permanent residence in Ukraine, where he took the post of deputy director general of the Crimean state television channel “ATR.”

As noted, Ayder Muzhdabaev said on May 22 that he was officially recognized as a terrorist in the Russian Federation. On Thursday, the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged with “terrorism” Ader Muzhdabaev, deputy director general of the ATR television channel. He was also placed on the international wanted list.
Muzhdabaev himself called the investigative committee’s message “the best gift for the Crimean Tatar Day flag, which we celebrate tomorrow on June 26”.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, described the case initiated by Russia against Moujdaabaev as “political persecution”.
