The biggest success of the prosecutor’s reform is the recertification and dismissal of more than 50% of the prosecutors who have not shown enough knowledge and have not passed the integrity test.

This was said by the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Ryaboshapka in an interview on the YouTube channel of MP Aleksey Goncharenko.

“The key for us was to change the criminal policy and the role of the prosecution in the state. This body was used by politicians and oligarchs as a punishment for their own purposes of persecution. Therefore, by changing the role of prosecutors, we wanted to make them independent, raising their status to roughly that of judges so that their level of independence is the same, “said Ryaboshapka.

He believes that now, by appointing prosecutors who have been dismissed due to incompatibility with the criteria of integrity, the new leadership of the Office of the Attorney General is putting the brakes on reform.

“I am extremely worried that the reform of the prosecution that we have started can be stopped. And some public statements by the new attorney general – for example, that he is ready to lose any litigation concerning lawyers allegedly attested – frankly, this is surprising and alarming. However, the reform of the prosecution that we have started is quite unique, and there has not been such a purge of the prosecution since independence, “said the former attorney general.

Ryaboshapka regrets that it failed to complete the purification process at the level of regional and district prosecutors during his cadence, as well as to digitize the department, which would considerably simplify the work of investigators, prosecutors, judges and all participants in criminal trials.

As Ukrinform reported, Ryaboshapka served as the Attorney General from August 29, 2019 to March 5, 2020.
