The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, in collaboration with Ukraine International Airlines, is studying the possibility of sending several additional special flights for the return of Ukrainian citizens to their homes in early May.

It was at an online conference on April 29, organized by the American-Ukrainian Business Council (USUBC), the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Vladimir Yelchenko, reports the correspondent of Ukrinform.

“We are trying to organize a series of special flights with International Airlines of Ukraine in the first days of May from Miami, New York and, probably, other cities,” said the Ukrainian ambassador.

In this regard, he pointed out that since the start of the pandemic, almost 1.2 thousand Ukrainian citizens have been repatriated from the United States by four flights from New York, Washington and Miami. At the same time, at present, about the same number of Ukrainian citizens have expressed a request for help.

“We now have around 1,200 people on our list at the embassy – those who need our support or who want to return to Ukraine as soon as possible,” said the ambassador.

He assured that now most of the diplomats at the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States are working there. At the same time, Yelchenko noted, the embassy is working with American partners to increase support for Ukraine during the pandemic.

“We are grateful to the American side for providing an additional $ 9.1 million in humanitarian aid and health care to Ukraine in the fight against COVID-19,” said the ambassador. .

In this regard, he said he would discuss with USAID leaders the possibilities of increasing this assistance.
