The reform of the medical sector will continue, but the hospitals will not be closed and their funding is planned at a level not lower than that of 2019.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov on the program “The right to power” on the TV channel 1 + 1, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.

“No one is going to stop the medical reform … We cannot allow the closure of 332 hospitals because many hospitals provide highly specialized medical care,” said Stepanov.

He added that hospitals should receive funding at a level not lower than that of 2019. In addition, there should be additional packages to finance the treatment of heart attacks, strokes, as well as emergency medicine .

“We believe it is necessary to increase the wages of our medical workers. We discussed this with the President. We are now doing calculations for the government so that all workers in the second and third levels of medicine receive a salary of up to 50% of the salary that exists today, “added Stepanov.

The Minister noted that for this it is necessary to make changes to the budget, which will be possible from July 1. According to him, about 400,000 medical workers can raise their wages.

Stepanov previously said that medical reform, in its current form, will lay off about 50,000 workers and close more than 300 hospitals.
