Stepanov ready to end medical reform – without layoffs or hospital closures
As part of the reform of the Ukrainian health system, one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Health team is to prevent the dismissal of doctors and the closure of medical establishments.
Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said this during a meeting with Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine Larisa Galadza, the press service of the Department of Health reports.
“Our task today is to combine the needs of patients, doctors and efficient spending. And the Ministry of Health is actively working on it now. I have enough strength and political will to end medical reform, while avoiding mass layoffs and the closure of medical facilities, ”said Stepanov.
According to him, the rates for medical services should be fair – that is, those that will cover all of the costs of treating a patient, not just a portion.

“Now the rate of myocardial infarction, for example, only takes into account one stent. And sometimes two are necessary. This is an example. And the same situation for almost all prices. Our position is as follows: the tariffs must be fair and objective, ”added Stepanov.
For its part, Galadza has assured itself of its desire to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine in the field of medicine.
“With regard to the reforms, first of all, I want to thank you for meeting with my colleagues from the Big Seven. It is absolutely clear that in the corresponding system of change, strong leadership is required. Therefore, I was particularly pleased to hear from you that many processes have started in the medical industry, which had previously been frozen, ”she said.
As you know, in Ukraine, on April 1, the second stage of medical reform began. They stipulate that health care facilities providing specialized (city, district hospitals) and highly specialized (hospitals and regional hospitals) medical care will receive funding under an agreement with the NHA.
