The respect by activist Sergei Sternenko of the preventive measure in the form of house arrest at the current place of residence in Kiev will be monitored by the Odessa police.

This was declared by Sternenko to journalists at the end of the hearing, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.

“Now they have changed the address of the house arrest, but they have not changed the body that should verify it. Consequently, now, in order to verify whether I will be at home for the house arrest, the Odessa police must go to Kiev, check and then return. It’s already the prosecution’s problems, I’m just saying, “he said.

At the same time, Sternenko said he would appeal such a decision on the restraint measure as soon as he received the full text of the decision.

He also noted that tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. June 17, Justice Vladimir Bugel (who pre-emptively selected an activist on June 15) is expected to announce the full text of the court ruling and has indicated that he will come to hear and invited media representatives to do so.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 15, the Shevchenkovsky District Court in Kiev chose Sternenko as a measure of restraint in the form of a house arrest. In addition, according to the activist, the place of residence under house arrest in the court decision indicates “military unit in Odessa”, instead of registration, but he “is not allowed to go there, because it s ‘is a sensitive establishment “.

“This determination cannot be respected,” said the activist, and noted that due to his failure, prosecutors could then “request detention”.

Subsequently, the prosecutor filed a motion to change the address of the house arrest.

Tuesday, June 16, Shevchenkovsky district court judge in Kiev, Elena Meleshak, granted the request of the prosecutor in the Sternenko case to change the address in order to execute a detention from the place of registration in Odessa to the place of residence in Kiev.

On June 11, Sternenko declared suspected of having committed crimes under art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 para. 2 (transport of cold steel without the authorization provided for by law) of the Criminal Code.

On the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. While pushing back, the activist fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself and the second attacker, who were quickly detained by the police but immediately released, stabbed him and granted him witness status and state protection.
