The Kiev Court of Appeal announced a break until 11:00 a.m. on July 3, 2020 to consider Sternenko’s defense motion to change his preventive measure.

This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.

The Kiev City Court of Appeal announced a break until 11:00 a.m. on July 3, 2020 in the case of Sergei Sternenko’s defense motion for changing its preventive measure. The court supported the decision by the fact that many people want to release Sternenko and that there is a need to study additional documents in the case.

As Ukrinform reported on June 26, the defense of the former head of the Odessa law sector, Sergei Sternenko, announced a challenge by the prosecutor in his case, Nikolai Bozovulyak, but the court refused.

On June 25, Sternenko said that the security services had completed an investigation into his case.

On June 15, the Shevchenkovsky District Court in Kiev elected Sternenko a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. At the same time, according to the activist, the place of residence under house arrest in the court decision indicated “a military unit in Odessa” instead of registration, but he “was not allowed there because it is of a sensitive establishment “.

“This decision cannot be implemented,” noted the activist and noted that due to his non-compliance, prosecutors can then “request detention”.

Subsequently, the prosecutor filed a motion to change the address of the house arrest.

On June 16, Shevchenkovsky District Court judge in Kiev, Elena Meleshak, granted the prosecutor’s request in the Sternenko case concerning a change of address to carry out preventive measures from a place of residence in Odessa to a permanent residence in Kiev.

At the same time, Sternenko noted that, according to the court’s decision, monitoring of compliance with the preventive measure in the form of house arrest was the responsibility of the Odessa police.

Sternenko announced on June 11 a suspicion of having committed crimes under art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 h.2 (transport of cold steel without the authorization provided by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. Reflecting, the activist fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself and the second attacker, who were quickly detained by the police but immediately released, stabbed him and granted him witness status and then state protection.
