The defense of activist Sergei Sternenko again challenged the investigating judge, Vladimir Bugil, but the court refused to consider the request.

This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.

Bugel announced that the court had accepted this request. “The court considers that this is an abuse of the right to contest,” said Bugel.

After that, the lawyers arrested the prosecutor Nikolai Bozovulyak.

“There is a leader in this procedure, the prosecutor, Bozovulyak, who supports this petition. We are submitting a statement of dispute to him, ”said the lawyer.

The lawyer said that the lawyers doubted the impartiality of Bozovulyak in these proceedings.

Sternenko supported the statement and noted that he considered the prosecutor to be biased. “I consider it biased … I ask you to pay attention to the fact that by attaching annexes to the petition to take a preventive measure, Bozovulyak added only what he thinks is evidence which, in his opinion subjective, may indicate the presence of an intention to commit certain offenses “in my actions. But he did not attach any evidence which appears in the documents of the criminal proceedings, which indicates that I did not commit the acts which incriminate me. And that contradicts the principle of completeness, of impartiality which the prosecutor must adhere to, “said Sternenko.

Now the activist’s lawyers continue to explain the grounds on which the prosecutor was charged.

In addition, according to another defender – Vitaliy Tytych, there are about 40 people who want to be the guarantor of Sternenko.

As indicated, Sternenko, on June 11 at the Main Investigation Department of the SBU, was informed of suspected crimes under Art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (transport of cold steel without authorization provided for by law).

Sternenko’s defense later said that Kiev’s Shevchenkovsky District Court would consider the motion to elect him as a preventive measure in the form of a 24-hour house arrest.

Sternenko is an Odessa activist, member of the local Euromaidan and former head of the Odessa law sector.

On the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. Repelling the attackers, he fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself and the second attacker were stabbed to death, which the police quickly arrested and immediately released, granting him witness status and then state protection.

In 2018, three attempts were made on Sternenko in Odessa in just six months.

The cases of attacks were referred to the General Directorate of Investigations of the SBU in Kiev, as explained by the prosecution, because of the “need to verify information on the possible involvement of local authorities and the police in the attacks ”.

For two years, the investigation has not officially established the organizers of the attacks on Sternenko. There is no penalty in these cases.
